Throughout the ages, Indigenous traditions, medicine men or shamans have been known for their connection to Mother Earth.
Through deep respect, they honoured her presence, giving thanks for the numerous gifts she would supply every day to the tribe and its people.
Everything was built around the knowledge that earth could heal through her energy. The more present we were with nature and her natural cycles the more we would receive and be in balance with our natural essence and true self.
Earth is a living organism, she has soul, and we can connect and commune with her. When we are disconnected from her, we feel lost, afraid, and unsafe in the world.
Whenever we feel stressed or stuck in life, we have all experienced the power of nature. Allowing ourselves to feel the sun on our face with our bare feet digging into the soft sand can turn our mood from sad to happy in a matter of minutes. We breathe in the fresh air and immediately feel supported and less stressed.
Feeling the rain on our skin, swimming in the ocean, warming ourselves by a fire or going star gazing immediately calls our spirit home.
As children we used to spend as much time in nature as possible, we would throw our shoes off and run around the yard with our bare feet connected to earth, taking in the energy that connected us to the great mother, that nurtured us and made us feel whole.
But as we grew, we somehow forgot about this and we started to spend less time connecting to her energy, therefore losing a part of ourselves that made us feel safe, secure and connected.
“Grounding” is the term used when we consciously connect ourselves to nature’s energy.
The more grounded we become, the stronger we are and the more our energy flows.
When we connect to earth, the energy comes through our bodies, and primarily through our feet. Our feet connect us to earth, they channel the energy of earth up into our body.
The Indigenous tribes were very aware of this energy and by stamping their feet and walking bare foot they would always hold their connection.
Throughout our bodies we have subtle spiritual energies that run up and down, following an ancient architecture that influences the energy centers of our physical bodies. The way these energies flow through the body are activated through the connection to earth, which has its own energy frequency.
We have 2 very important energy channels that you need to be aware of. One is at the top of the head which is known as the crown chakra and one is at the very base of the spine, known as the Root Chakra. Indian Vedic & Taoist traditions teach us that we are constantly receiving energy through these channels.
As the energy enters the crown chakra, it flows all the way down the front of the body through the chakras, down into the root chakra. The root chakra is the point that connects to earth’s energy, through this point the energy flows down through the legs and feet, which are connected to the earth. Once it establishes this connection, it then runs back up the spine, which then supplies our entire system with energy. When we lose our connection to earth, we lose our connection to life as we are not receiving the energy we need to support our wellbeing. Grounding is so important to our mental, physical and spiritual self, but unfortunately this knowledge has been kept from us and it’s time for us to relearn the ancient ways.
If you have been feeling exhausted, lack energy, stressed, mentally confused, lack purpose and direction, it is very likely that you have lost this connection. To claim it back take off your shoes and feel the dewy earth against your feet.
Through regular grounding and clearing your energy centers you can start to recharge and create harmony in your entire system. Learning about subtle energies and being able to influence where they go, is a way to keep your emotional & physical body healthy by clearing out old stagnant energy.
